Description

Scripted by me, drawn by Karno ( [link] ).

I feel that I've finally learned enough about Bayesian rationality to try talking about some of the fundamentals... and this comic was the first result.

So many people dreamed of going into space when I as young.  There was Star Trek, Buck Rogers, Battle Star Galactia, to name a few.  But when I became a teen, science fiction became a sounding board for causes.  Morality tales about how you should listen to and obey the ideas of those who are much smarter than you.  Make sense if you say it real fast, but just like Stalin's Soviet Union the most ruthless take power and consider themselves the smartest among us.  They take control of the media and turn it into propaganda machines to support their power.

We are in a period of history where the people in power see the dream of one world government can be realized.  Any space travel is a direct threat to that dream.  People who live in a distant frontier cannot be controlled.  Utopia cannot be realized unless the arms of regulation can reach out and touch every human.  All dangerous thought must be done away with.  Truth must be what ever those who run the Utopia says it is.  You can see this already in large cities, where corruption is obvious.  Yet voters keep putting in the same people or people like them who will put up with all of this corruption and lie about how it's not a problem.  I've been to Mexico where anything about the government is a bunch of propaganda.  The people there know it, they just laugh at what the radio announcer says and figure there's nothing they can do about it.  I don't believe in Utopia, but I do believe space is the future of the human race.  But there are those who are in power, who don't deserve to be in power, who will fight this as they know the human race will outgrow them and be beyond the reach of their finger tips.
