"Don't you just hate being woken up by the micrometeor puncture alarm?"

What you can't see is, behind her, the shipmate who's too tied-up to help out at the moment.

Dee's universe doesn't contain artificial gravity - only the real sort of gravity you can find on planets, and the fake "gravity" that comes from spinning things around. You can see the outside of the ship she's aboard at the picture at [link] , including both the rotating bits, and the bits that don't rotate and don't even have fake rotation-gravity.

Unlike in some Hollywood movies, it takes some time for all the air to blow out of a hole. For a hole that's one in square, and a compartment that starts at one atmosphere of pressure, and a compartment the size of a 20-foot cargo container, then it takes over half an hour to drop to 80% of normal pressure. There's a handy reference page at [link] with more details, if you're interested - that whole site is a goldmine of useful info.

Ah, thank you for the reply! I had imagined that would be much faster. So these are those bubbles, and emergency patch in the other paw?

Exactly!

I'm pleasantly amused that a bubble-blower can be an essential part of a science-fiction repair kit. :)
